Check Out Our Fall Educational Programs

By Mary Auer

This year we started a refresh of the CCA Education offerings.

In October, CCA is hosting "Fraud and Internet Security."  Scammers keep changing their approaches. Join us October 2, 2025, to learn about the latest information and how to protect yourself. The event will be in person at the Ridgedale Library and online.  Check out the event details to find out more details and to register.

The refresh started this spring with our first in-person event since COVID. The session, "Roundtable on Aging," was a broad discussion of the multiple challenges the elderly and their caregivers face. If you missed it, the presentation can be found on the CCA Website. (Note: Past presentations require member login to view.)

We also will continue to promote the monthly Cargill-specific Vanguard webinars.  The sessions are a mix of topics focused on those still working, as well as those who are retired.  If you have registered, all sessions are recorded and available for two months afterwards.  Dates and session summaries can be found on the CCA Education page.  Registration and past presentations are on the Vanguard Website.

Upcoming Vanguard education opportunities (online only) - sessions are at 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. and 3:00 – 4 p.m.:
•    Webinar: Learn About Social Security - September11
•    Webinar: Supercharge Your Retirement Savings - October 9
•    Webinar: Understand Your Cargill Retirement Benefits - November 6

Next year we will be working to bring new CCA-coordinated events.  We would love to hear your suggestions about topics to consider – or even a topic you would like to present.  Please reach out to us at cargillcaresalumni11@gmail.com with any suggestion

Invitation for Fireflies at Sidekick Theater

We will be venturing back to the Sidekick Theater, located in the Minnesota Heritage Center in Bloomington, to see the romantic comedy Fireflies on Wednesday, October 15. Lunch seating is at 11:30 a.m., and we move to the theater at 1 p.m. for the performance.

In Fireflies, retired schoolteacher Eleanor Bannister lives a quiet life alone in tiny Groverdell, Texas. She is set in her routines and secure in her position as the town’s most respected woman -- until a hole in her roof draws the attention of Abel Brown, a smooth-talking drifter intent on renovating Eleanor’s house, and possibly her life. Can the unexpected sparks of late-life romance be trusted, or is there truth in the gossip that Abel is not all that he seems to be? Either way, the whole town is talking.

For more details and registration, click on Sidekick Theater Event
Please register by Friday, September 26

Take Me Out to the Ballgame! And we did!

Cargill Alumni came together on Wednesday, June 11, to see the Twins take on the Texas Rangers at Target field. The Twins won, beating the Rangers 6-2. Our group took a tour of the stadium again this year.  “If you have been on one of the tours before, they are all unique,” said John Keefe, our perennial host.  “I’ve been on every one and learned something new each time.”

And of course, what is summer without a Saints baseball game? On Wednesday, July 9, CCA members and friends headed to see the Saints take on the Iowa Cubs. There’s always a lot of fun and entertainment at CHS field. The Saints played hard and had 5 hits, but 2 errors. The Cubs bested the Saints with 6 hits, no errors, beating the home team 5-3.

Annual Golf Tourney Tee Off

The annual 2025 CCA Joe Fournier Golf Tournament and Steak Dinner was held on August 7, at Timber Creek Golf Couse in Watertown, Minnesota.  The participants (33 golfed and two attended the dinner only) enjoyed excellent steak meals provided by Luce Line Lodge catering.

Prizes were awarded for lowest gross score, lowest net score, fewest putts as well as longest drive and closest to the pin winners.

Prize drawings included many golf-related prizes, such as complimentary rounds of golf at nearby golf courses, golf balls and golf lessons. Of course, having Joe Fournier on hand to celebrate the season was the best prize of all.
